At last night's meeting of the Auckland Rugby Referees' Association Messrs. C. S. Reader, C. G. Campbell, S. Ashby, J. R. Miller and A. V. Styles were passed in tbeir oral examination. Mr. E. Simmons was elected to membership. Messrs. N. A. Conquer and J. J. Ryan ■were appointed referees for the Presbyterian Bible Classes' seven-a-sido tourney on June 3. The New Zealand Rugby Union requested observance of the law that players must not leave the field at half-time. During a general discussion on rules of the game frequent reference was made to breaches by forwards, particularly "lifting'' before the ball was fairly in the scrummage. SOUTH ISLAND NOMINATIONS.
