Bluebeard is the hero of the tale in the "Contes du Temps" (1097), t>y Charles Perrault. If "Bluebeard" ever existed, he may have been Giles de Retz. Marquis de Laval, who lived at Mahccoul, in Brittany; he was accused of murdering six of his seven wives. He was strangled and burnt in 1440.
