BETTER TONE, VALUES FIRMER
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Co., Ltd., reports:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day beef was penned in more than average numbers. There vas an improved demand, the market showing a better tone. Values firmed on last week's- sale. Extra choice ox sold' to 19/ per "1001b; choice and prime, 16/ to 18/; secondary and plain, 13/ to 15/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 14/ to 18/; ordinary, 10/ to 13/. No extra heavy prime steers were penned. Heavy prime steers, £6 15/ to £7 5/; lighter, £5 17/6 to £6 12/6; light, £5 to £5 15/; email and unfinished, £3 to £4 15/. Extra prime heifers, £5 to £5 10/; heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 2/6 to £4 17/6; lighter, £3 5/ to £4; light, £2 10/ to £3 .2/6; other cows, £1 5/ to £2 5/. , *
Alfred Buckland and Co., report.—Today at Westfield our beef pens contained 317 bead, comprising 205 steers and 112 cows and heiiers, as againsc 340 head at last Wednesday's market. There was a better tone, with, values slightly higher for prime light steers. Extra choice ox sold to 19/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 16/ to 18/; secondary, and plain, 13/ to 16/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 15/ to 17/; ordinary, 9/ to 14/.. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 15/ to £8 5/; heavy, £7 to £7 12/6; lighter, £5 15/ to £6 17/G; light, £4 10/ to £5 12/0; small and unfinished, £2 10/ to £4 7/6. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 5/ to £5 5/; heavy, £3 10/ to £4 2/6; lighter, £2 10/ to £3 7/0; others, £1 5/ to £2 7/6.
Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day ox beef was yarded in average numbers. A rather brighter tone prevailed, and values showed an improvement on late rates. Cow and heifer beef was penned in full average numbers, and here also a bright sale took place, with an improvement in values. Extra choice ox sold to 19/ per lOOlb; choice and prime, 16/ to 18/; just killable, 13/ to 15/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 15/ to 17/; just killable, 9/ to 14/. Heavy prime eteers ranged in price from £6 12/6 to £7 2/6; lighter, £5 7/6 to £6 15/; light, £5 to £5 5/; small and unfinished, £2 2/6 to £4 17/6.
