PERSONAL.
Mr. A. E. Hefford, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, returned to Wellington last evening. Mr. Benno Moiseiwitscli, pianist, arrived in Wellington yesterday by the Maunganui from Sydney. The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., left Auckland for Wellington by last night's Limited express. Dr. R. J.. Snodgrass, of Suva, is visiting Auckland. He and Mrs. Snodgrass are staying at Hotel Cargen. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, who has been to Christchurch in connection with the tramway dispute, returned to Auckland this morning.
Captain R. Wall, of the United States Army, stationed at Honolulu, arrived by the Niagara, and will tour New Zealand.
Mr. M. H. Wynyard, chairman of the No. 1 Highways Board, left for Wellington last evening to attend a meeting of the Main Highways Board.
Messrs. F.. Lye, J. A. Lee, G. C. C. Black (Motueka), and W. J. Poison (Stratford), M.P.'s, were passengers to Auckland by the Limited express this morning.
Dr. E. F. D'Ath, professor of pathology at the Otago Medical School, who lias been six months abroad, returned by the Maunganui to Wellington yesterday.
Mr. Fritz Hart, of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, who has been acting as guest-conductor to the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, is returning to Australia by the Niagara.
The Hon. J. R. Pearson, who has retired from the position of Secretary of Indian Affairs at Suva, Fiji, was a passenger to Auckland by the Niagara yesterday. He will tour New Zealand before going to England.
The Rev. Percy Houghton and his wife, Div Houghton, have arrived from Wellington. Mr. Houghton is to take over his new charge, St. Mark's parish, Remuera. They were farewelled at a largely attended public meeting at Brooklyn before they left.
The Rev. Dr. Lauchlan Mac Lean minister of Glasgow Cathedral, has arrived in New Zealand. For the past three months he has been preaching at the Scots Church, Melbourne, and lie is now on his way back to England.
Mr. B. Faulkland Macfiylane, of Devonport, Auckland, who is studying medicine at Edinburgh University, has been successful in gaining the medal for midwifery and diseases of women. He is the soil of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maofarlane, who are mow on a visit to Edinburgh.
