WATER POLO.
CHAMPIONSHIP DISPUTE,
An important point relating to the residential qualifications of two players participating in local competitions was clearcd up at a meeting of the Auckland Water T*olo Control Hoard last evening. Tlie hoard had sought the ruling of its solicitor in the case of C. R. Watson, whose .eligibility to play for the Ponsonby Club in the championship final had' been challenged by the losing team, Waitemata.. In reply, the solicitor said that Watson was eligible to represent Ponsonby. Although lie worked in the country, his home, from a legal point of view, was in Auckland.
The Waitemata Club was, however, successful in its protest against the playing of H. Hefferman, the board having received advice from the secretary of the Hawke's Bay Swimming Centre that the player in question had not been granted a transfer by the centre. He was therefore not qualified to play in an Auckland competition match while 011 holiday in the city. The board decided to take 110 action in regard to the award of the championship until it had received the ruiiiig of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association in the cnse of the Waitemata Club member. J. Meikie, who, it alleged, had not been granted a trans-f-r from Canterbury to A-'" land.
