REMITS TO CONKEUKXCI'
Three remits allccting ragwort and other noxious weeds were brought foiward at the annual conference _of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, which opened in Auckland this morning. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. A. Martin (Uotorua), to urge the Minister of Agriculture to introduce legislation so that all lands Crown, native and European—he placed under the same obligations with regard to noxious weeds. , On behalf of the Hunua branch it was decided on the motion of Mr. F. Lockwood to impress on the Department or Agriculture the necessity for seeing that the regulations for the eradication ot ramvort be enforced in particular on Crown, native and all unoccupied lands. On tiie motion of Mr. J. W. Jones (Pakaraka) it was decided to ask the Minister of Agriculture to instruct -he noxious weeds inspectors in districts where the pest was making its appearance, to compel those whose land was infested with ragwort to clear it. Californian thistle was also mentioned in the remit, but was struck out on an amendment. Californian thistle was not regarded as a serious menace, said tin ee delegates. In fact it was good for Sh The danger of ragwort was expressed by many speakers.
