NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS.
Is it quite fair to compare New Zealand Railways with British? The British cater for a population of forty-five million i nh * Dl ' tants and a few million tourists, whilst JNew Zealand railroads cater for one million and a quarter inhabitants with a few thousand tourists thrown in. The most expensive part or railroads is the permanent way, yet New Zealand possesses sufficient permanent way w cater for over twenty million people instead of one million and a quarter. The P as Je n make the railroad, and if the New /f™" d demand for railroad travelling justified at least six Limiteds daily, maybe the .powers that be would find themselves in a position to compete for comfort. As it is, speaking as a world-wide train traveller, I think New Zealand can justly be proud.of the rail wrnce amSfceblc. sharpie.
