APPORTIONING OF LABOUR.
In a large local concern there are at least two flagrant instances of "graspers" taring an excellent time whilst others hare been reduced to a point where they can hardy subsist. A clerk drawing £4 per week has his eldest daughter in a position as manageress with a firm, and her salary is £3 7/6 per week. His second daughter is in work also, drawing £2 15/, and yet again another daughter is working, her wage being £1. He is in r€ce too, of a war pension of 10/ weekly, so we find that the aggregate weekly income of his home is £11 12/6. Just think of it—ill 12/6 per week in these days. An officer in this same concern draws an emolument of £10 and at the same time holds down the job of secretary to the sick and accident fund at a further salary of £4 per week plus expenses. The total salary of this man is £14 per week, and this prevails in a concern where we are supposed to be represented and where sonic hundreds of men have been put off work altogether, whilst others have been reduced drastically. STRANGE BUT TRUE.
