LAWLESS FEMALES.
SEVERE PUNISHMENT NECESSARY. (To the Editor.) I would suggest that the severest possible sentences be passed on women convicted of offences such as were common on Thursday and Friday nights. There is a type of woman who in times of trouble and danger will trade on her sex and is likely to be the cause of much more loss, injury and possible tragedy to other people than a man committing the same offence. On Friday, during the day time, I saw a man barred by specials near the Police Court. The man still attempted to get through, though giving no excuse for doing so. A woman came forward and demanded that the man be let through and commenced to interfere with the "specials." She was not an irresponsible girl, but a mature woman, and it was plain that she was of a type that will deliberately attempt to stir up trouble in order to achieve notoriety so long as she herself does not suffer for it. When conditions are as they were after Thursday night any woman who gives sufficient indication of being of this type should be locked up at once. C.C.M.
