TE KORERO For Boy Scouts
Scout and Guide Parades. Metropolitan Commissioner W. J. Holdsworth notifies all Scout groups that parades and other meetings may now be resumed as usual. The Provincial Commissioner for Girl Guides advises that parades of that organisation may also be resumed. The combined choir practice will be held at the usual time and place on Saturday next, April 23. The parade of sixers and seconds and one officer, called for Tuesday last, will now be held on Saturday week, April 30, at 2 p.m., at the P.S.S.A. Hail (-Manna House) Edinburgh Street, Newton. The first class examinations will be held as arranged on Saturday next, April 23. * * * • Mount Albert in Action. The Mount Albeit Scouts had a wonderful opportunity of showing the real Scout spirit at their camp at Clevedon last Easter, writes the group scribe. Heavy rain that continued throughout most of their time in camp could not dampen the ardour of these boys and their officers as they lived up to the Scout tradition of smiling and whistling under all circumstances. Although not very much actual Scout work could be done owing to the weather, the boys had the chance of putting the theory they had learned about how to camp in wet weather, into practice.
The Rovers wish it to be known that they t-re willing to give two plays at any Scout concert. The scribe saw these plays when they were given at the annual meeting, and he has no hesitation in saying that they were two of the best of their kind that he has seen. The Rovers nave made a den of their own inside the Scout hut. It is movable, and can be erected in a minute or two. It is about Bft square. This is used as a committee room also. The two Cub officers attended the Akela camp, and came home with fresh enthusiasm and two heads crowded with new ideas. Each six has a lair of its own now, and this innovation was taken on by the rjoys beyond all expectations. Other new ideas are being put into operation, but they remember the Chief's injunction, "Softly catchee little monkey," and are endeavouring not to give all the "meat" they have brought home in one "meal." Each section of the group is going to start making handicrafts, and our idea is to have a sale of work at the end of the year. Meanwhile, the call goes out from the group council for volunteers as coaches in any of the crafts. Any persons who would be willing to give their assistance in this direction are asked to leave a note at headquarters addressed to C. M. Yorke. » # * * Northcote Group. In view of the inclement weather there was an extraordinarily good muster of Scouts and Cubs at the parade held in the new Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 10. The service was a very enjoyable one, and the Rev. F. A. Thompson gave a very interesting and inspiring address. On Monday night, April 11, the parade was in charge of A.S.M. Rogers, but the programme had to be abruptly curtailed owing to the hall being required for a meeting at very short notice. The group is assisting in a concert organised in aid of the unemployed. The rehearsal of the campfire scene postponed on Monday was continued at Mrs. Mayall's residence on Tuesday night. The following new recruits were invested in the Cub Pack on Monday evening: B. Jenkins, P. Climie, R. Boyd, T. McGhic. The committee have purchased a side drum for the troop, though it will not be publicly used for some weeks. The following meetings have been arranged for this week: Court of Honour, Thursday, 7 p.m., S.M.'s residence. Football practice, Waimana, 2 p.m. Saturday. Anzac Day parade, Scouts to assemble near Northcote Hotel on Monday, at 7 p.m., and march to theatre.
