UNFIT IMMIGRANT.
MISLED IN LONDON? "EXCELLENT PROSPECTS." A peculiar case was reported to the Hospital Board yesterday by the relief committee. A man aged 33, an exEnglish civil servant, who came before the committee, arrived in the Dominion 12 months ago with his wife and young child. He said that New Zealand House, London, informed him that it was a simple matter to get to New Zealand provided he paid his fare, and there were excellent prospects for himself obtaining employment. He was a sufferer from spinal war injuries, and had been unable to make a living since his arrival. The Prime Minister and two Cabinet Ministers informed him that there were no Government funds out of which the cost of his return to England could be defrayed. The Government Departments were again being communicated with, pointing out that the man should not have been sent here, as it was not fair that one hospital board should be saddled with the responsibility of sending the family Home, but that the expenses should be a charge against the Government.
