AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
AUCKLAND CLUB ACTIVITIES. A fairly extensive programme of -winter competitions is contemplated by the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. The cycling division commenced the road racing season last Saturday week, and it is the intention of the athletes to make a start at the Outer Domain on Saturday next at 2 o'clock, when the following handicap events will be decided : 75yds, one inile steeplccliase. putting the 161b shot, am! throwing the discus. It is probable a novelty event will be added to the programme. Last winter the A.A.A. and C.C. placed strong harrier teams on the trails and succeeded in winning the senior and junior Auckland provincial cross-country championships, while J. W. Savidan (club captain) was first home in the New Zealand cross-country championship, in which race his club mate. J. Nicholson, performed surprisingly well after losing his shoes. Owing to difficulty in securing suitable dates during the past track season, the Victor Laidorum Cup was not competed for, while the handsome Sportsman Cup and E. S. Kohn Cup competitions were not decided. It is intended to submit these trophies as added altractions in connt'etion with the series of winter sports, the winners to rank as the holders for the 1031-32 season The Sportsman Cup will bo decided first. and the Victor Dudorum next. The Kohn Cup will so to the athlete who seores most point!-.. Gold medals accompany the Kohn and Victor Ludorum Cups: Alan J. Elliott (vice-captain) is likely to take part in the competition until he leaves for the tenth Olympiad.
