OLYMPIC SELECTION.
CRITICISM IN OTAGO. THE OMISSION OF SAVIDAN. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. At the Otago N.Z.A.A.A. Centre meeting, Mr. Breen, one of the Olympic selectors, said the members who came to the decision to send Miss Kencli to the Olympic Games were not qualified to remain on the council, especially when J. W. Savidan's prior claims were considered, get fit in three weeks for a trial over six get fit in three weeks for the trial over six and a quarter miles, and repeat the' performance at the Olympic Games in three months. It was a direct insult to cyclists to ask Grose to have a trial, after his performance at the New Zealand championships. It seemed to him that it had been decided that the Wellington girl must go at all costs.
Mr. Johnson, who competed at the Empire games with Savidan, said the Aucklander should be the first man sent. Savidan made hacks of the best runners from all over the Empire, and showed himself one of the world's best at the distance.
Mr. Beatson, ex-champion Australian long distance runner, said Savidan was easily one of the best long distance runners the Dominion ever had.
