AMENDMENTS TO BILL.
PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES. COALITION PARTY CAUCUS. URGENCY TO BE CLAIMED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. An indication that amendments to the section of the National Expenditure Adjustment Bill dealing with Public Service salary reductions would be introduced this afternoon was given by the Prime Minister after a combined caucus of the Coalition Party. Mr. Forbes stated that the caucus had been called to consider various anomalies that had been brought to the notice of the Government, and he had informed the caucus that amendments would be ma,de to meet many of the objections, which members of the party had raised. The main purpose of the section was not being altered in any material respect. The Prime Minister intimated that urgency would be claimed for the passage of the bill, but that did not mean that an effort would be made to pass the measure at one sitting. The Government would be satisfied if the section dealing with salary reductions was disposed of at to-days sitting. Mr. Forbes smilingly remarked that it was not altogether'unlikely that there would be other amendments moved apart from those which the Government intended to introduce, and he agreed that a lengthy sitting was in prospect.
