AND NOT FAR DISTANT. ENGLISH BUSINESS MAN'S VIEW. "BUY BRITISH" CAMPAIGN. The opinion that better times for New Zealand are not far distant is held by Mr. Arthur B. Gibson, head of a leading firm of wholesale provision merchants in England. Mr. Gibson is now in Auckland, in the course of what lie describes as an "All Red" world tour. Mr. Gibson lias been closely identified with the "Buy British" campaign in the Old Country, which, he says, lias produced wonderful results. In the North Midlands (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire), where his firm operates extensively, the percentage of colonial butter sold has risen from 15 to 00 per cent of total sales during the pant five years. "This is a remarkable achievement, particularly in view of the fact that butter from the Continent can be marketed within a fortnight of being made, whereas New Zealand butter arrives from eight to ten weeks after leaving the factory. It is a striking tribute to the quality of the Dominion's produce," he said.
Mr. Gibson mentioned the success achieved by Australian dairy produce at last year's Royal Show in England, and said Australia was probably New Zealand's greatest rival in this direction at tlie present time. He had visited the Maseey Agricultural College and had been greatly impressed by the dairy research work that is being done there, particularly as regards "openness" in cheese, and pasteurisation difficulties.
Explaining why lie thought New Zealand wafi heading for better time.3, Mr. Gibson said it must always be remembered that prosperity at Home had its reflection in the Dominions. The Old Country had most definitely "turned the corner" towards prosperity, and the recovery that had been made would eventually be reflected in greater put - chasing power, which would mean a still better'demand for colonial produce. New Zealand was probably the last to feel the depression, and her recovery had been similarly delayed, but it would coino, all the same.
