KITCHEN INTERLUDE.
"I wonder what pedigree it is?" "Don't be silly! They don't have pedigrees." "Well, anyway, I think Tt would be a fine pet to have. We wouldn't have to feed it." "Aw, what's the use of a thing like that?' Besides, mum wouldn't let us have it." At this stage curiosity got the better of me, and, banging on the kitchen door, I yelled out: "Hey, }'ou two in there, what are you talking about?" "Curiosity killed the cat. Ha! ha! lia!" came Tom's voice by way of answer. "And information brought him back," I retorted, and hurled myself at the doov. My entrance was so rapid that I almost tripped over. This set those two cheeky boys laughing, and my blood fairly boiled within me. Jim was nearest, so I grabbed at him and' missed. The urchin darted round the table, and I chased him. Round and round we went, Tom nearly splitting his sides laughing at us. < Then Jim dived underneath the table, and I, of course, went after him. But, unfortunately, he darted out the other side, and I, in straightening up, gave myself a resounding crack. . • "You imps!" I gasped at length, and rushed at them. They were ready for me, however• As I rushed they separated, and I nearly toppled over. Regaining my balance, I ran after Tom. who had taken refuge b'eliind the gas stove, which stood a little way out from the wall. Triumphantly I thrust my arm behind the stove, but >1117 fingers only clutched thin air. "Yah! Can't catch me!" My breath came in gasps, but I was not done yet, so I leapt, forward quickly and grabbed them both b'y the ears. They, too, were winded, so made no attempt to escape. "Now, lads," I said, when I had regained my breath, "tell me what you meant when you were talking about a pet." "What pet?" Tom said in mock wonderment. "You know very well -what I mean, I answered. /'Do you really want to know?" Jim put in. "Yes, of course." "Well, we were talking aboutI had let them go, so both of them edged nearer the door. Then Jim con eluded: "We were talking about a fro?. Surprise robbed me of my movements, but when T. recovered, 1 1 chased tos boys twice round the house. •
