TO BE HIDEOUS.
MUCH TIME REQUIRED. Some indication of the exacting task undertaken by Fredric March for dual role in his new "horror" film, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," can be gathered from the fact that five hours were daily spent in preparation for camera work. That was the time used by the player and his "make-up" men in attending to the physical details of the "Hyde" characterisation. Through a long series of research tests, March arrived at the appearance he would give the ugly side of the dual personality in order to make it vivid and real. To maintain this effect, lie was compelled to re-create each day, in the minutest detail, every phase of his appearance. Five hours was the average length of time spent daily before the dressing room mirror. "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is booked for earlv release in New Zealand, and the production will be notable for the remarkable manner in which the difficult story has been transferred to the talking screen. Appearing with Fredric March in the Robert Louis Stevenson classic are Miriam Hopkins, Rose Hobart, Halliwell Hobbes and Holmes Herbert. Rouben Mamoulian directed.
