POMP AND MIDINETTE. SOME PROMISING YOUNGSTERS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

W. Kayner, who returned from Auckland on Wednesday with Pomp aml Midinc'ttc, intends to spell that pair until next season. Midinette did not finish on in the Champagne Stakes as she was expected to do, but her form during (the season has been good enough to suggest that the Limohd —"Motley filly will develop into a good three-year-old. Pomp has been a disappointment all through the season, and has not shown the form in his races that track work had pointed to him. doing. Rayner will now devote his attention to getting his three youngsters ready for their spring engagements. The Lysander— Bronze filly looks like one "that should come to hand quickly, while the Pombal — Motley filly also should be ready early in the season.
The Wanganui Jockey Club will give away £1400 at their winter meeting, to be held on May 12 and 14. The principal event, the Wanganui Steeplechase, to be run on the second day, will be worth £150, and the Century Hurdles, set down for the first day, will carry a stake of £125. Similar amounts will he given in the grandstand Steeplcchaso and the Empire Handicap. The Trial Hack Handicap at last year's Wanganui winter meeting was run over 7% furlongs, but the distance for thiii event at the forthcoming meeting will be five furlongs only. Auctioneer stripped in great fettle at rending, but he disappointed his connections. He was very unlucky the first day, out appeared to have every chance had ne been good enough on the second day. , ® W1 " Probably be tried over hurdles iater on. A Manfred colt which is being got j-eady or next season is a fine looking youngster, and promises to be very speedy. He races in the same interests as Sea Scout. star Area is training on all right, and the bl 'K A cre gelding will probably do well as a hurdler.
