OPPORTUNITY FOR DOMINION. r MATSON LINE'S ACTIVITYCATERING FOR THE TRADE. "My main object in visiting New Zealand is to gather as much information as possible, which will be sent to our head office : in San Francisco and used for advertising the Dominion," said Mr. H. E. Pippin, passenger superintendent for the Matson Line in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, who arrived, by the Sierra- this afternoon.
"The Matson Line intends to put on a big advertising campaign, and we look at New Zealand through the eyes of prospective passengers," continued Mr. Pippin. "It is our endeavour to induce the American people to come down this way. We feel that we can keep a good stream of. people • coming to ■ this Dominion. The New Zealand Government Tourist Bureau has done a good job in the United States, and citizens know New Zealand better than they do Australia in consequence. New Zealand stands out, in their minds as an objective.
"We saw a definite drift of tourists away from Europe in 1927," he added, "and there is a definite lure to the South Seas and to New Zealand tourist attractions. This country stands to benefit much more than any other South Seas country. There is something so entirely different for the tourist here. The era of the Pacific is definitely started, and it will be a profitable drift for all concerned. That is why the Matson Line has built the new steamers for the run."
