" ROBBING THE REALM."
A "Morning Post" reader sends the following extract from a paper written by William Cecil, Secretary of State, and later Lord Treasurer in the reign of Queen Elizabeth: "'. . .It is manifest that nothyng. robbeth the realtne of England, but whan moore marchandisees is brought into the realme than is carried furth because the balance 'must be payd with money.' The remedy hereof is by all pollycyes to abridg the use of such forrayn commodities as be not necessary for us."
