BRUTAL ASSAULT.
MAN ROBBED OF £53. SEQUEL TO TELEPHONE CALL. OVERPOWERED BY STRANGERS. (By Telegraph.—Press A-soclation.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. Charles Williams, a resident of Palmerston North, was the victim of a brutal assault and robbery last evening, a sum of £53 being taken.
Mr. Williams stated that he was summoned by telephone from the Cosmopolitan Club by a man, who asked to meet him outside the club. When Mr. Williams went out he was met by a stranger, who said he had . a companion round the corner who desired to see him. Not suspecting any trouble Mr. Williams went round and engaged both men in conversation. Suddenly both attacked him and overpowered him. They took a £50 note and £3 of other money and made off. He was bruised and had a cut on the head. The police are investigating the case.
