CALL CAME TOO SOON.

SYDNEY BRIDGE SIDELIGHT. LONDON, March 24. The Dean of Durham (Dean Welldon), in a letter to "The Times," recalls having mentioned to the late Sir Hugh Bell, chairman of Dorman, Long and Co., the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Sir Hugh Bell replied that he hoped to attend the opening, but added significantly: "Unless I am called away before." The call came, but the bridge was a memorial to himself and his co-director, Sir Arthur Dorman. He leaves a name honoured and revered in Australia and Britain. The late Sir Hugh Bell died in June last. He was aged 87. His partner and friend, Sir Arthur Dorman, died only a few months before him.
