THE FASTEST TRAIN IN THE WORLD.

Whenever records are broken by aeroplanes, motor cars, and speed boats the news is round the world in 110 time. But we never seem to hear much about the progress of the steam engine. Yet without much fuss engineers, linesmen, and engine-drivers each year strive to outdo their previous year's records. Last year the world's record was broHen in England by the Cheltenham Flyer, of the Great Western Railway. This engine hauled her train 77J- miles, Iroiu Swindon to Paddington, in (>7 minutes, which is an average speed of (JO. 2 miles an hour. Parts of the journey were covered at speeds around 80 miles an hour. By this* run Great Britain took the record from Canada. The previous record of 08 miles an hour was nrade on the Canadian Pacific Railway, on the run of 1*24 miles between Smith's Falls and Montreal West.
