LOCAL BODIES.

BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, presided. Bus Matters.—Mr. H. A. Campbell was appointed to tender evidence at the sitting of the No. 2 .Licensing Authority in connection with applications lor .passenger service licenses affecting Birkenhead. The list of suggested bus stops on the Birkdale and Beach Haven route was approved, these meeting with the endorsement of the Birkdale Ratepayers' Association. The bus stop between McGovern' store and Seddon .Road is to be shifted one pole nearer Seddon Eoad, and a stop sign placed between Pupuke and Waratah Roads. Representations on the inconvenience caused to passengers by the new system of " pay as you enter are being made to the Birkenhead Transport, Ltd. The council resolved to forward all future complaints regarding bus services to the No. 2 Licensing Authority. Street Collection.—The request was granted of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children for permission to make a street collection on the first Friday in November. Main Highway Repairs.—Sealing repairs to the Birkenhead portion of the Auck-land-Maungaturoto main highway, and also on the Onewa Road main highway ara nearly completed. Upper Harbour Bridge.—Mr. W. H. Payne's resignation as a representative on the Upper Waitemata Harbour Development Association was accepted, and Mr. J. Macdonald was appointed. Vermont Road.—An inspection of Vermont Road is to be made, a petition having been received requesting widening the footpath for a distance of 30 chains. Technical College.—Mr. R. R. Hayman was appointed to attend the meeting on March 21 for the election of a member of the board of managers of the Seddon Memorial Technical College in place of Mr. W. N. Mcintosh, resigned.
