ROUND EAST CAPE.
NEW ROAD SOON USABLE.
SCENIC ATTRACTIONS. CAMPING SITE AT WAIKAWA. According to an A.A.A. patrol who recently made the journey from Opotiki to Whangaparaoa, on the East Coast road, experienced drivers should be able to make the trip from Opotiki to Gisborne, via the East Cape, during the Easter holidays. The new route does not present insurmountable difficulties, and it is possible to travel over the whole road without assistance. The new road (writes the "Star's" correspondent in Opotiki) brings within the
reach of motorists many new beauty spots, both in the bush and along the coast, and the scenic attractions outweigh any difficulties which the motorist may encounter. The road to Te Kahu has been in regular use for some time. From there onwards the greater part is uumetalled, but it soon dries after rain. Numerous rivers and creeks are met with, but these can be negotiated with care. It was hoped that some of the worst crossings would be bridged at an early date, but the curtailment of works by the Government is likely to hold up this important work for some time.
About seven miles beyond the Keren a very fine camping site at Waikawa lias been made available to the association by Mr. Romeo Wi Repa. The distance from Opotiki to Whangaparaoa is 74 miles. From Whangaparaoa the road turns inland to Hicks' Bay. The road runs along the sea coast practically all the way to Whangaparaoa, and those who have-been over the route have been enchanted by its beauty.
