EARTHQUAKE PENSIONS.
SUM OF £43,000 .AVAILABLE.
PROVISION FOB WIDOWS AND ORPHANS.
GRANTS FOR INJURED.

The Central Earthquake Committee to-day decided- to set aside the sum of £43,000 to provide pensions for earthquake widows and orphans, and grants for injured persons. Pension payments will begin as from January 1, and it is expected that initial payments will be made in the course of a week.
It was also decided that loans granted for restoration of houses not exceeding £100 are to be treated as free grants.
