"BEN HUR" FOR MAJESTIC.
great Tnrr.Tvr with sound effects.
Auckland demanded a eeven-week season of "Ben Hur" when it was presented as a silent picture, and now that it has been refitted with both souxul and colour effects, at any rate in the main scenes, it should exercise a new appeal. "Ben Hur" will be screened at the Majestic on Thursday.
Its public will remember the great battle between the piratical Barbary corsairs and the stately war galleons of Borne, the adventures that befell Ben Hur while working as a slave aboard the Imperial hell-shipe of Caesar, and finally the struggle for supremacy on the chariot-course of Antioch between Ben Hur and Messala the Roman. Fitting reverence is attached to those scenes in which the Christ is shown, His face never being visible. In the last stages of the story, when Ben Hur realises his ambition of raising an army with which to drive the Roman conquerors from his ancient land, there is an unforgettable scene showing that multitude receiving the lesson of peace.
