THEFT FROM SHOP.
LABOURER WHO BOLTED
REMEMBERED NOTHING.
Tie theft of a glass jar and contents, valued at 8/2 from a sweet shop in Parnell yesterday, brought Horace Allan Taylor, aged 29, a labourer, to the Police Court this morning.
Taylor pleaded guilty. Detective Sergeant Kelly eaid accused went into Mr. H. W. Pepper's shop yesterday and bought an ice cream. He was under the influence of liquor. After Taylor had left the shop, Mr. Pepper found that the jar of sweets had disappeared. He followed Taylor, who bolted. A constable followed him and eventually the jar was recovered from ;i washhouse. At first Taylor denied taking the jar, but later admitted the offence, adding that he might as well jret 14 days' imprisonment as go to a relief camp.
Counsel said Taylor was a married !:!hii and had not been in trouble pre- •. iously. He did not remember anything about the ..matter until he woke up at the police station. He was willing to tyV.R out a prohibition order.
Taylor was fined £1, or seven days' in-.prisonment.
