MIXED HIS DRINKS.

DRIVER INTOXICATED. FINED £10 AND PROHIBITED. Walter Strickland, aged 35, mixed his drinks yesterday, and at 11 o'clock last night in Fort Street he was arrested for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of his motor car. Strickland admitted the charge when he appeared at the Police Court to-day. Detective Sergeant Kelly said Conetable Shannon, when in Fort Street last night, observed the car driven by Strickland moving away from the footpath in an erratic way. He found accused practically lying across the steering wheel, intoxicated and talkative. "Constable Shannon drove Strickland's car to the police station, and found that the foot and hand brakes were out of order and the clutch defective," said Mr. Kelly. Counsel for accused said Strickland ] unfortunately mixed his drinks when ho met some friends yesterday. He first had beer and later whisky. He was not a , drinker as a rule. He was a married man with a wife and two children, and had never been in trouble previously. Strickland was willing to take out a prohibition order. He was fined £10 and ordered to be prohibited.
