RAIN IN THE NORTH.
FARMING LANDS BENEFIT. OVER FOUR INCHES IX TWO DAYS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAREr, this day. Heavy rain, which lias fallen during tho past two days, has done inestimable good to the countryside, especially in hilly placeri, which were beginning to show a burnt appearance. Dairymen say it has prolonged their season for several weeks.
The rainfall for the past 24 hours ended !) a.m. to-day was 2.24 inches. This brings the total for two days to 3.43 inches. To the north of Whangarei the fall has been heavier. At Ruatangata the gauge showed 2.64 inches this morning, making the total for the two davs 4.10 inches.
There has been practically no dislocation of traffic, except that Russel has been cut off by road communication since Sunday. The car from Whangarei went as far as Helena Bay yesterday, but was stopped by two flooded creeks'.
