BERESFORD STREET CHURCH.
REV. ALBERT V. WHITING CALLED.
A special meeting of the members of Beresford Street Congregational Cliurcli was held last evening to consider the question of calling a minister to succeed the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher, who leaves for London next May. It was decided unanimously to extend a call to the Rev. Albert V. Whiting, the associate pastor of the church.
Mr. Whiting had charge of Beresford Street Church during the year that Mr. Fletcher was conducting a mission in England. He was born in England, and during the Great War saw service at the front with the British Royal Artillery. He was next in Canada for some time in the Y.M.C.A. work. Coming to New Zealand Mr. Whiting ihad some business experience, but gave'it up to go once more into the work of the Y.M.C.A. at Wliangarei. He was later appointed to the charge of the Congregational Church at New Lynn, and also studied at college to qualify for ordination. His next appointment was as associate minister at Beresford Street, and since the return of Mr. Fletcher he also had charge of the Congregational Church at Onehunga.
