SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

In order to assist, with the funds necessary for the running of a bazaar in connection with the Taupiri Anglican Church, a card evening was held on the Saturday of last week. The winner of the ladies' prizze- was Mrs. R. E. Hunter, and that of the gentlemen's prize Mr. J, Farrelh , i~" # » • The Mount Albert branch of the W.C.T.U. held' their first monthly meeting for this year on Thursday, in the Presbyterian Sunday school. The president gave a brief; outline of the work suggested for the year. Mrs. Kaeper delivered an interesting address on the history of the W.C.T.U. * * * • A dance organised, by tho Taupiri Tennis Club last .week proved a very pleasing event, there being a good attendance, with visitors from Ngaruawahia, Orini, Huntly, Te Hoe and Gordonton. The Monte Carlo dances were ivon by Miss White and Mr. H. Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs. F. Jerome respectively. The Thirty-fifth Athletic and Social Club held a dance in the Narrow Neck camp last evening. There was a large attendance. The officers and men of the signallers corps, New Zealand Territorial I'orce at present in bivouac at Narrow Xeclc attended, and were welcomed by Mr. C. Poland. The coloured streamers in combination; with the gold and khaki uniforms, presented a unique scene. Nononcers were catered for at the card tables, the winners of the various games king Mrs. Whiteman, jun., and Messrs. Lotiqy, Sljgo and Matthews. The ladies' lymmittce comprised Mesdames McIvil and Hunter. There were also present: Misses Boag, Sinton, Morris, Andrews, Hunt, Jones, Moberley, Jamie'on, Mitchell, Spinley, Enmor, McQuarrie, Graham, Bell, Wilson, Parks, Hill, Malloy, b'Neil. ■» « * ' ' * »
