LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

MATAMATA SUBDIVISION PROJECT. A deputation from Taotaoroa settlers waited on the Matamata County Council to urge the formation of a new road through various properties situated in the Karapiro riding near the CambridgeTirau Road, so that more intensive settlement as desired by the Unemployment Board might take place. Mr. Johnstone said the road ran parallel with the existing highway, but several miles from it. It would enable 10 more settlers to occupy the land, which was unimproved. The road would start by Newcombe's farm and come out by Watkins' or Yercoe's. All the" settlers had agreed to give the land for the road and were selling to the Government at valuation. There would be about 2000 acres available for new settlement.
