MORE ITALIAN NEWS.
(By Thelma MsUett, Orcra Bay, via Onehunga; age 17.)
Perhaps some of the best reading is to be found in the advertising section of the "L'lllustrazione Italiana," and one derives great interest from the articles advertised therein. One rather fascinating style of watch took my fancy the other day. The watch was enclosed in a little case of gold or silver (whichever the customer could afford), with different scrolls, etc., inscribed upon the lid. On pressing two buttons on either side two pretty doors are opened, and the clockface shown. Another style not only lifted the doors but push. up the clock face in an upright position. THey would be very handy to carry in one's pocket, and also very convenient to put on one's dressing table, too. Far better than having to poke about for a wristlet watch on a cold morning! Evidently the Italians are keen chess players, for in» every book there are examples, and the winners of different matches. There are a few stories by the leading writers, which are of great interest, and notes on many men, from novelists and musicians to aviators. The pictures are very nice, and give one an insight into Italian life. I had in my last book a very pretty group of different coloured azaleas, with contrasting green leaves, underneath which was written, "Easter Flowers —Azaleas," only of course, in Italian. These books' have given, me great enjoyment, as they do to my fellow student in Ellerslie, and to her and fellow Budgetites who study languages I send my heartiest good wishes.
