THEFT OF BENZINE.

PRISONER FOR SENTENCE. Appearing for sentence on a charge of attempted theft and two other counts of the- theft of 14 gallons of benzine; of a total value of £1 7/, from Winstone's quarry at Mount Roskill, William Alexander Amos Scott, aged 28, was to-day sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., said he had received a bad report from the probation officer about Scott. He had gone to the quarry with another man early one morning and both had been caught as they were about to steal benzine. The other man was now serving a three months' sentence. Mr. Hunt added that he would take into consideration the fact that Scott had already been two weeks in prison on remand. "In making the sentence one of 14 days, I am treating you uncommonly lightly," Mr. Hunt told Scott.
