RAWLINGS SCHOLARS.
I/ATEST AWARDS ANNOUNCED. THREE AUCKLAND BOYS. . Three Auckland city boys have been successful in winning the three scholarships that are awarded annually uud-T the will of the late Mr. Humphrey Rawlings. The names, as announced by the trustees, Messrs. Baker and Swan, arc: — •Johu Allison Wh'elan, 3, Maiigj.wha.ii Road, Newmarket, and a pupil of the Newmarket primary school, 165 marks out of a possible of 250, 1; David Owen Waters, of 4, Tudor Street, Devonpoi't, and a pupil of the Devonport primary school, 103, 2; and Thomas Tliexton, of 20, Cromwell Road, Mount Edpn, and a pupil of Kowhai Junior High School, 1.33. 3. The scholarships are tenable for three years either at King's College, or one ot the Grammar schools, and entitle tiie holders to a maintenance allowance of £10 a year each. Out of the original S7 candidates, 81 Bat, this number representing 25 primary schools in the Auckland province. A scholarship is not awarded unless there, are at least 20 candidates, representative of at least five schools. Nine boys still hold the scholarship, three having relinquished theirs at the end of last year. The annual number awarded is not fixed, the limit being fixed by the funds available at the time.
