ONEHUNGA EX-SERVICEMEN.
MEETING IN NEW PREMISES. The Onehunga Ex-Servicemen's Club met last night in their new premises recently acquired from the Onehunga Borough Council, and formerly used by the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Princes Street. The premises have been renovated and painted. The president, Mr. N. A. Ching, presided last night over an attendance of 150 members. The lion, secretary, Mr. Claude Brown, reported that since the last meeting the membership had steadily increased, and now stood at 435. The "steady response of members in the gift of books for the library had been very gratifying, the president said. Wherever possible it was the executive's intention to appoint a permanent custodian, so that members might attend the rooms at any time. An honours board had been given by Mr. Henley, and was at present having the regimental numbers and names of five of the deceased members added to it. Mr. Whillan had given an ensign, which he said was captured by the Germans in the Great War, and recaptured by the British. It was decided to hold the annual flag day and gala night on Friday, February 5.
