FIXTURESSaturday, January 23.—Meeting, Lynndale. Sunday, January 24.—Special Club Meeting, Domain, 0.30. Saturday February 6.—Lynndale Carnival. Saturday, February 13.—A.A.A. Centre Carnival. Much competition is being provided fo* members of the Auckland Amateur Cycle Club The officers of this progressive club have arranged for at least one race a week, while at the present time races are being run on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Owing to the rain no events were decided last Saturday, when three races were set down for decision at the Lynndale track, JSew Lynn. . , Last Wednesday a " De'il tak' the Inn - most" race was decided on the Domain. This race is a test of speed and endurance. It generally is a " give away race to tlie backmarkers. Riders, all starting from the scratch mark, go round one lap at an easy pace, and then the race proper starts. \s each lap is covered the last rider is withdrawn, until only three remain; then the last three have a race to decide tlie event.
In this, case, M. P. Byrnes, the clubs, scratch man, rode a wonderful race, easily .mitepriating H. O. Browne and I. O. Jumping suddenly, he.passed both Browne and Laloh as if they were standing still. Byrnes is at P«*»**"ffiing hard, though he is as yet far from lit. Some fine riding is expected from him tins Se Next to Byrnes H. O. Browne was the best performer. He rode a solid race m spite of a painful accident to his arm just before he started. Browne is a powerful typo of wheelman, but lacks Byrne's touch of brilliancy. Laloli rode another fine race. Though not a good sprinter y powerful riding he kept off some - of the best of the back markers, to finish in third P °ln the pursuit race the team under H. M McElroy won. McLlroy has not clone any serious racing this season, but he is now getting down to it in earnest. Next Saturday the club will be competing at Lynndale. Trophies won at this meeting will be presented at a dance conducted by the club at the Crystal Palace ballroom next Saturday.
