STARTLING CLOUDBURST.
NORTHERN STREAM FLOODED, HORSES IN A PANIC. . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day.
A' -cloudburst occurred over the Mareretu Mountain about 10 a.m. on Saturday, causing a terrific volume of flood water to go. down the Taipuha stream and over the flat where the main north highway crosses the stream. Several campers had to leave hurriedly. A °reat many fences on the property oi the°Mcßae Brothers and Mr. J. N. Carroll were laid flat. The local cream wagon had a narrow escape, as a wall of water about 2ft high struck the roadway with logs and debris, causing the horses to panic and the driver narrowly averted disaster. A bridge at Milbrook was wrecked, and other° extensive damage done in the vicinity of the big divide between Waipu and'tte Taipuha railway station. The cloudburst was the most unusual occurrence for years. r
