WITHOUT PROSPECTS.
—»- 22 PROBATIONER TEACHERS. EDUOATION ECONOMY SCHEME. Only 100 of the probationers who obtained satisfactory reports upon theii teaching work last year can be admitted to the Auckland Training College this year, in view of the Education Department's decision to limit strictly the number of trainees for the profession. This means that 22 who have favourable reports will have to be refused admission. Their position was considered by the Auckland Education Board to-day in committee. It was stated afterwards that there were originally 140 probationers last year, but two retired and ten of the others failad to receive, satisfactory reports. When the Department advised the board that the number must be reduced to 100 the position of all the probationers had to be closely scrutinised by the senior inspector .and his staff, in collaboration with the headmasters.
The board expressed its sympathy to-day with the 22 who are left wkhout any prospects, and decided to urge the Department to give their cases the most favourable consideration if any probationers are admitted to the Training College next year.
