LORRY GOES OVER BANK.
MAORI DRIVER BADtLY HURT
FOUND IN UNCONSCIOUS STATE,

HASTINGS, Monday.
A Maori, Ri Kaurauria, of Oringi, near Dannevirke, met with a serious accident while driving a lorry down the Te Aute hill on the way from Dannevirke toward Hastings this afternoon. The lorry skidded in loose shingle and went over a bank, turning over several times. Kaurauria, who was alone, managed to scramble out just before "the lorry caught fire. He was found by another motorist, who first noticed smoke and then saw the victim of the accident lying beside the lorry.
He was unconscious, and when medical assistance came he was found to have several broken ribs, one of which had pentrated a lung. His condition to-mglit was as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
