BIBLE CLASS CAMPS.
.In connection with the New Zealand Anglican Girls' Bible Class Union a large camp is being held in Auckland at the present time. This is the first time the annual camp has been held in this city, Christchurch, Marton, Nelson and Palmerston North having been the centres chosen in the last few years. The senior camp is stationed at the Queen Victoria Maori Girls' College, and the juniors are at the Dilworth School, and altogether over 160 girls are in' attendance. The girls have come, from 1 a 11,., .-parts:, of New Zealand and .'their' numbers include a woman missionary from the'" Gulf of Carpentaria, The main object.of;,the camp is Bible study, and 'for the 10 days, which is the period of the camp, an interesting programme has been arranged. ! A sports tournament will be held, the junior camp " having been given the use of the Diocesan School tennis courts, while girls of the senior camp have also a court at their disposal. Lectures will be given certain of the citizens of Auckland. The girls began to * arrive in the camps at five o'clock yesterday and work was begun this morning. At 6.30 at the Dilworth camp a domestic ■'welcome was held. On behalf of Archbishop Averill, who was unable to be present, Archdeacon Mac Murray extended a warm welcome to the girls. He impressed on them the opportunities they had, as girls,' to influence the country in which they were'born, and also spoke, of their responsibilities. Miss A. G. Baker, a member of the. executive, introduced the various officers and presented each with burlesque emblems of her office. The Rev. G/ C. Cruickshank, chaplain of the camp, also spoke. The opening of ' the camp at Victoria Collego took-place,at 7.30 p.m., and Archdeacon Mac Murray. again welcomed the girls on behalf of the Archbishop. Canon C. H. Fancourt, chaplain of the damp, told the girls of many places of interest in;the history of the Anglican Church of New Zealand which they might visit during their stay in Auckland. A telegram was-read, by Miss A. G. Baker, from '.Miss Winifred Averill; president, in which she : wished the'girls all success in their, camp life, and saying that she- Avould join them . at a later, date. The programme arranged is a most varied onn, and a day has been set apart when the girls will-be taken for a drive and enabl&T to see many of the beauty spots of'the city. A fancy drees party is being held ;this.evening and this will*be followed'by candle "vespers.
