SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

"A farewell party tendered to Miss Phyllis. Johnson, who is returning to England after a three years' visit to her aunt, Mrs. A. E. Harding at Northcote, was held at "Rangiatea," Clarence Street, Northcote, the home of Mrs'. D. P. O'Leary, who is the. president of the Northcote Women's Progressive League. A presentation was made to Miss Johnson on behalf of many friends she has made during her sojourn in the district, where she took an active part in social activities. Enjoyable musical and elocutionary items contributed to a very pleasant function. Competitions were won by. Mrs. A. Taylor and Mr. D. Crowe. Those present were: Mesdames D. P. O'Leary, A. Taylor, A. Campbell, Healey, Rowles, Righton, Horan, G. D. O'Leary, Stewart, Williams, Misses Gifford, Chippenfield, Williams, B. Gifford, Melville, Bowles and Healey.

There was a very happy gathering of the relatives, family connections and old friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Camnieil last Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of their golden wedding. The festivities took the form of a picnic held in the Hon. E. W. Alison's beach paddock-at Takapuna. The guests of honour were, married on December 9,. 18S1, in St. Matthew's Church, by the Rev. W. Tebbs, Mrs. Cammell, then Miss Sullen, coming originally from Tasmania and Mr. Cammell being an Aucklander. . Mr. Camlnell's mother, Mrs. Ann Cammell, is 90 years of age and still well and strong. She makes her home with her son at Milford. The lady who acted as bridesmaid was present (Mrs. E. Carr), also ten of Mr. and Mrs. Cammell's children, one son being killed at the war, four having seen active service—and fourteen grandchildren. In the latter part of the Maori War Mr. Cammell served with the Auckland Rifles, and has been connected with the Auckland Gas Company for over 40 years, living part of the time in Ponsonby andTthe last twelve years in Milford. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cammell are well known for their deep interest in church work.
