BROADCASTING PROGRAMMES.
WIDE RANGE NECESSARY.
(To the Editor.) "Fed-upV' views on broadcasting » re one-eyed that he should sign j affl W "Polyphemus," and are such as one wild expect to hear from some alleged ju* who might have been turned town tan management at the local station. For and unadulterated selfishness the expressed would be hard to beat. It w u seem that he and his kind do not realise tlft the weather reports are of great value 2 to agriculturists and to those at sea, 'whin the market reports are of the greatest intent to people in the country, who rely on +h broadcasts to keep posted in the latest qn o ta iions. All of us would lilce to liear mo humour over the air, but where is it to co if from? A comedian who seems funny at fo instance, one of those semi-sad Eino-sono! held by social clubs would sound patheti when heard over the air. Any humorist win could be really entertaining as a radio artist would not stay long in Auckland. He would make his fortune in the "talkies." It would seem from his letter that because "Fed-UD" and his pals cannot appreciate what he contemptuously terms "so-called" classical music many others with more educated tastes should be doomed to listen to so-called "popular" music, such as "Sonny Boy," sung through the nose by somebody with ukulele accompaniment. We, all of us, however, are far too inclined to think that our own particular taste is what everybody else should like and we should try to avoid being didatic in our expressions of opinion, especially in % columns of the daily papers. GIVE AND TAKE.
