Tiie Theosophieal Society, Xew Zealand, j section. held its 36th. annual conventionj yesterday. The delegates had been wel- 1 corned at an afternoon gathering on j Saturday ai; the Vasanta School. The j convention "was presided over by Mr. -J-i R. Thomson, and delegates representing; J nineteen lodges and a total membership in the Dominion of over 900, were present. The opening address was delivered by Mr. C. E. Yates, of Christchurch, and an ; optimistic note pervaded the proceedings : throughout. Mr. Wm. Crawford was. unanimously re-elected general secretarv j and Miss L. M. btone assistant genera. ■ secretarv. Miss E. Sunt and Theo j Queree were elected national lec tur ers. j The principal business beiore the conven-1 tion was the adoption of the revised i rales of the section. The New Zealana, Theosophieal Trust _ Board j made an appeal for funds tor the "v asanta i Garden School, as its income had suHered during the past year. _ Greetings were cabled the convention to the world' president, Dr. _ Annie Besant, and her colleagues at Adyar.
The King is godfather to trie infant daughter of Viscount and Viscountess Churchill, whose christening took place at the Chapel Royal. St. James', recently. The baby, named Sarah Faith Georgiana, was born on June 5, and is the first child of Lord Churchill's second marriage. The Countess of C&van and the Countess of Dalkeith are the child's godmothers. Lord Churchill, who is a descendant of the great Duke of Marlborough. is himself a, godson of Queen Victoria, to whom he acted for five years as a pane of honour.
