MOTOR VAN CHASED.
CAPSIZES INTO POOL NAVAL PARTY ABOARD. OWNER WITNESSES MISHAP. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. A party of sailors from the sloop Laburnum, which is at present visiting Whangarei, had more than a share o°f thrills when they boarded a light delivery van which it is alleged had been taken by a cmlian without permission ly om Tangowahine on Christmas Day. i<or the return journey the van was iulJy loaded, and it was sighted in the evening by its owner, Mr. Fred Crawford, at Tangiteroria, going towards Tangowahine. °
A race ensued, and the van, to elude its pursuer, with lights switched off, turned sharply up a side road towards Onetea. Mr._ Crawford, following the van for 12 miles, was in time to see it turn over into a pool in the Karaka Gorge. The party were extricated uninjured.
Mr. Crawford motored the sailors back to their ship, and on returning next morning recovered the van, which was considerably damaged.
