RADIO CONVENTION.

MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR,

DOMINION TRANSMITTERS MEET,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

CIIRISTCH URCH, this day.

The annual convention of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters opened on Saturday and ends to-day. There are more than 50 delegates from all parts of New Zealand. Mr. H. P. V. Brown, the Dominion president, welcomed four women operators among the delegates.

Mr. W. G. Ashbridg.c, the general secretary, reported that the past year had been tho most successful in tbs association's brief history. Substantial progress had been made in all phases of the work, and the membership had been more than doubled. It was estimated that 90 per cent of the active amateurs' in the Dominion were now members. From the financial viewpoint the association hud prospered greatly. A valuable privilege accorded by the Post and Telegraph Department during the year was that of reporting upon applications for higher-frequency permits, and it appeared that the association might in the future, by this means, make 40-metre and 20-metre permits a reward for virtue rather than a mer». matter of routine. Four new branches had been formed. A credit balance of £38 was shown in the balance-sheet.

The convention decided to admit short-wave listeners to membership, and it was decided, after considerable discussion, that they should have the right (,o vote 011 all matters except those, affecting only transmitters. A recommendation to the executive to amend the constitution of the association was carried. It was also decided, that the executive be recommended to consider the need of taking action against amateurs with bad transmitting, notes. • • - : -

A further decision was that the association be registered as. an incorporated society in the New Year.
