A PROMISING HACK.

Manawatu, who first came into prominnence by finishing second to Haulbowline at Levin, scored an impressive win in the Oringi Handicap at Dannevirke, and is evidently a smart hack. ' He is owned by Mr. F. S. Easton, of Foxton, and is a three-year-old gelding by Acre from Merry Sarto. Manawatu is engaged in minor hack events at Awapuni and is likely to be seen to further advantage before that meeting is over.

THRIVING WELL,

Though not engaged at the Auckland meeting Hampton Park is being kept up • to his work and is thriving well. It is doubtful if he was ever more robustlooking than at present, and that he still retains his pace was clearly demonstrated by his good effort over six furlongs on the iso. i grass track yesterday morning. Hampton Park will most likely make his next appearance at the Takapuna meeting in January and should be at the top of his form by the time that meeting arrives. I
