TROTTING.
AUCKLAND CLUB. THE SUMMER HANDICAPS. PETER BINGEN AT BACK IN CUP. Promptly to time Mr. C, Goosman has issued his handicaps for the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's summer meeting and chief interest will centre in the Trotting Cup. Under the present system it was known the marks the horses would be on, but in the case of Ngingongingo and Auto Machine the handicaps may be altered as the outcome of the appeal being heard on Friday. The limit this year 'is 4.30 and the entry is an excellent one, including as it does some of the best young horses in the Dominion. Mr. Goosman has placed oleven horses on the limit and practically all will go better than handicapped. Royal Silk and Golden Pedro appear to be the best of the Southerners on the front. Both are recent winners and improving horses. Auto Machine, also on the limit, is a fine pacer, and if A. Brown lands him at the post at the top of his form he may be good enough to win. Muriel de Oro and. Ngingongingo are another pair who cannot be overlooked. Red Sliadow, on 12yds, will no doubt be the favourite. He is a brilliant four-year-old with fast times to his credit over all distances, and he seems to be very little short of a champion. However, the cup will not be an easy race to win, as there are several able to go a merry two miles. Getting further back in the handicap Regal Voyage, 36yds, appeals, and at her best Mountain Dell, on the same mark, would have a chance. Free Advice, 60yds, is a brilliant mare, but she is now set a hard task. Jewel Pointer, Gold Jacket, Wraekler and Peter Bingen are too far back and at present can be left out of calculations. There will be plenty of opportunities to review the handicap again before the race, but at present Red Shadow, Golden Pedro, Auto Machine and Royal Silk are likely to be strongly fancied.

CANTERBURY TOPICS. TODD LONZIA LEASED. PROGENY OF JACK POTTS. (By Telegraph. —Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHUKCH, Monday. The trotting trainers are making preparations for holiday racing. There will not be so many horses as usual for Auckland, though a few will go, including the Derby candidates Ciro, Gold Paper and Tempest. A strong contingent of slower class horses will go to the West Coast, but indications point to the local fixtures by the Ashburton and Canterbury Park clubs being very liberally patronised. The Guy Parrish trotter in A. Cox's stable is coming on well in her training, and she should be useful later in the season. Her dam, Kola Bell, was a good trotter. Aleron, who hae been out'of training for some time, has rejoined G. McKendry'e team. He looks as if he had done a lot of exercise before returning to the track, so he may be ready to race very soon. N. L. Price is keeping the trotter Red Eagle in steady work. She will be raced at New Brighton next Saturday, when she may show improved form. Cannonball is being kept in steady work by A. Cox at Addington. He is a smart trotter up to a mile and a half, and he is worth keeping in mind for early engagements. It was reported recently that Free Advice would be retired to the stud, but after a short spell, following the Cup meeting at Addington, the brilliant pacer is in steady work again. Some of the Jack Potts youngsters have been handled, and it is reported that they all take to the pacing gait without much trouble. C. S. Donald will have a number of them doing useful' work in.the near future. The trotter Todd Lonzia has been leased to a patron of D. Withers' stable. The young trotter created ■a . favourable impression when first lie was raced, and lie should show a lot of ■improvement after his spell. N. L. Price is keeping the sister to New Metford in steady work. For some time the young trotter did not show much inclination to prove her speed on the track, but she is doing better now, and she may develop into a useful performer.
