TICK REGULATIONS.

DRIVING WITHOUT PERMIT STIFF FINE IMPOSED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) EOTQBUA.. Monday. The necessity to obtain a permit to drive cattle across the borders denned by the Cattle Tick Regulations was made plain in the Magistrate's Court this morning, when W. Hilling was charged with driving ten. head of cattle across the border without first obtaining the necessary permit. The inspector of stock held that the breach of the regulations was a eerioue one, and there was no excuse for the accused. The law on the question was well known in the district, and Hilling had been written to. but had not answered. A permit cost nothing. For the accused Mr. Bae said his client did not know of the necessity for a permit, and would have only been too willing to get one. He bought the rattle at Te Teko, and it was the first time he had procured stock from any great distance. Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M.. inflicted a fine of £5 and 12/ costs.
